An Ode to Christianity
I am a Christian. I believe in God, and that Jesus died on the cross. For me and for you too!
Whether you believe that or not, is up to you.
What’s done is done and you too have a chance to live as happily as I do.
How do I know this is true?
I just do, he’s gotten me through many things where I didn’t know what to do.
All the times I felt useless, like a pile of dog poo.
Like the time we didn’t have a car and almost lost our home.
Or even when I pray over my honey comb.
I know he’s here, watching over me and supplying my needs.
It all started when I decided to call out to him on my knees.
Once upon a time, there was a small girl. When she was 8years old, she wrote a short story. In her story she wrote about the time she flipped off of her bike. It brought back painful memories, but she was okay with it. As long as it had a happy ending, she was okay. What was the happy ending you ask? She got to hold her little screaming brother, whose blaring screams numbed her pain. She was content. At the end of her little novel, she wrote a biography. Itching to know what she wrote? Hmm, I think she can tell you. “Hi my name is Lauren Willis, and I like to do weird things in my spare time.” J
Dear World,
Hi there! I’ve come to inform you of my many obsessions! I feel like, if I’m going to have them, I might as well share them with you all. ^__^ . I’m obsessed with Asian people and culture, I have no real idea why. They’re just so cute and they cultural traditions and lifestyle is just so, exciting to me! Unlike my culture, the best we get is macaroni and cheese at Thanksgiving and Christmas time, Woo! …NOT! I’m also obsessed with Rihanna. Yes, I know, EVERYONE is obsessed with her, but I have a legit reason I swear! I’m obsessed because, everything about her physical appearance is how I imagined myself when I was about 12 and 13 years old. Sooo, basically she’s the manifestation of my imaginary self, just not me. Get it? Yes! Next, all things vintage! When I was younger, we could only really afford to shop at thrift stores, so I just took a strong liking to them, no particular reason. On top of that, I can be pretty money stingy. J I love old school one-speed bikes! I have no clue why I’m obsessed with them, they just intrigue me. So on to the next one! I have an unnatural obsession with short hair. Long hair doesn’t even compare to me anymore. It’s so EASY to take care of! You’d think the same style everyday gets boring, it doesn’t! Because you’re always fierce, everyday! Awesome right?! I know. Thanks for your time!
Xoxo,
Lauren <3
At age 9 in fourth grade, I was in a choral concert. No I cannot sing, but I didn’t know that then, so don’t penalize me for that. During that weekend in Lake Geneva, the directors measured us to see how tall we were for line up. When I got to the front of the line, I walked up to the wall and got my measurements taken. I was 5 feet even! Note, I was in 4th grade, that’s pretty tall! Since then, every year until 8th grade, I grew 2 inches. Junior year was when I hit 5ft 10inches tall. Sounds tall I know, but I want to be at least 5ft 11in! On top of that, I don’t feel very tall most of the time, so I want that extra inch. Sorry if I sound whiny.
Lennell, Antoinette, Me, Gabrielle, Emmanuel and Joel Willis, the six of us make up my family. We’ve been through a lot and I’d die for every one of them.
SCENE
(Setting, Lincoln-Way East lobby on the benches, Freshmen year.)
Me: Heyy, what’s your name again? I forgot, sorry.
Stella: (laughs) It’s Stella.
Me: Oh, well Hi Stella! You waiting for your parents to pick you up?
Stella: Yepp, they take too long.
Me: Where do you live?
Stella: Frankfort, Timber’s Edge.
Me: OMG! ME TOO!
Stella: AHH! WHAT STREET?!
Me: PINEVIEW LANE !!
Stella: AHHH OMG ME TOO!
…And from there it’s destiny.
SCENE
(Model callbacks; back room for walking counseling and measurements, standing next to my mom)
Measurement Man: (yells) LAUREN WILLIS?
Me: Here I am! I’ll be right there.
(walks over)
Me: How are you?
Measurement Man: Good and you?
Me: I’m pretty good, thanks for asking.
Measurement Man: Raise your arms.
(measures my hips)
Measurement Man: I’m going to need you to lose 2 ½ inches off your hips in 2 weeks.
Me: Omg, are you serious?
Measurement Man: Yes.
(walks over to my mom)
Mom: Looks like he likes you!
Me: No mom, he thinks I’m fat…
Haiku of the iPod
Music, I love thee.
iPod, I listen daily
Keeps my sanity
Once upon a time, there was a girl. She’d seen a casting call online for a fashion show. Eagerly, she begged her mother to take her to give her fantasy a try. The girl went, she was extremely nervous due to the other super experienced girls. She and her mother said a prayer, and she was next. Pulling her shoulders back and slightly pushing forward her pelvis, she walked, awkwardly, but she did it! The extremely pregnant lady in the middle told her she loved her look, but she needed to work on her walk a little. The girl was a little discouraged, but she lived because she got a free shirt on the way out.
About 3weeks to a month later, she checked her email. She had gotten a call back! Ecstatic, she ran to tell her parents, they all jumped for joy and congratulated her on a job well done! Little did she know, this was just the beginning. At the callbacks, the directors were brutal! Her walk still needed a lot of improvement, and on top of that, they’d told her, her body was nowhere near perfect enough for the job. For weeks she worked out and on her walk. Dropped all of her weight in just two weeks and walked till her feet blistered.
The night of the show finally rolled around, hair, make-up, fittings, all hectic! One designer in particular handed the girl a size 25 jeans. She looked at it knowing, there’s no way she’d fit into that size, but she tried anyway. Crap, it didn’t fit, just like she’d thought. When she told him, he rolled his eyes so far she thought they got lost in his brain until they came back around. He rummaged around a found a size 27, telling her this was the largest size he had. She was a little discouraged, but they fit and that’s all that mattered. Time for the line-up everyone was yelling and pushing and shoving all the girls down the stairs. Unfortunately, our girl was the second face! Her heart pounded like a humming bird’s. She was terrified, she didn’t know if her walk was good enough. The first girl was half way around, the director pushed her out and she just walked. When she looked out and worked her 4inch stilettos, this adrenaline and euphoria came over her and she felt invincible. That 90second walk, had changed her life. No criticism, no rude designers, no painful shoes or heavy make-up mattered anymore. She’d found her passion, well second passion.
As a kid, I didn’t have much. I learned to appreciate a lot of things, like having a variety of foods to eat, shoes and clothes that fit and a family and God that loves me unconditionally. When you realize the little things, it’s a lot easier to be happier.
