WAKE-UP! Early Manifesto
Rise and Shine and…
It is adult time, and we are at a crossroads.
Do we perpetuate the behaviour of our adolescence? Or, do we evolve; shake our collective lifestyle in which we choose to barely function? Do we convert? Do we remodel ourselves to earn membership to the un-fabulous cult of productivity and self-betterment, the cult of those who maintain a healthy regiment, who pencil out schedules in daily planners, and follow those pencilled guidelines? Do we succumb to this conversion with sweater sets and eco-friendly coffee thermoses in hand? Or, do we fight this conversion with resentment, with the lighting up of ‘j’s at 4:20 in the morning, with tardiness, with half closed, crusty eyes, with miss-matched socks, and with defrosted breakfast burritos?
Fellow young adults who stand with us at the interim of youth and nostalgia of youth, is it time to start waking up early?
YES
As a child, where you an early riser?
96.2% of individuals asked this questioned responded yes. 78.4% of those individuals who responded in the affirmative did so with a twinkle of longing in their eyes[1]. Whether it was in anticipation to watch power rangers and dark-wing duck, the thrill of jumping on your older brother’s bed (while he was still sleeping in it), or an addiction to Quaker Oat’s Dinosaur Egg Instant Oatmeal, once upon a time, we were all morning people. What changed? Our bodies? Our lifestyle. Or, the influence pop culture held over our personal decisions. By reducing exposure to recreation practiced in the daylight, we became more susceptible to the western misconception that pleasure and leisure can only be attain if purchased. The misconception that thrill is strictly a product of things better kept in the dark. However, it is not too late, in fact, it is nothing less than natural to return to our primal, intrinsic vitality of bygone youth. Continuing to sleep through our alarms, sleep through Saturday, sleep through Sunday is self-belittlement. It is an assumption of mediocrity. It is the evidence of misdirected fear of reaching our full potential.
Reasons to wake-up early:
- Waking-up early greatly increases productivity; you have before you a beautiful handful of hours to be productivity. Potential distraction are greatly reduced because your dumbass friends - the ones who are actually fun - are still sleeping.
- Waking-up early stimulates original creative output. In the morning, the mind is fresh, your eyes and your ears are not yet influenced by the stimulus cacophony of our culture.
- Waking-up early offers you the time for an invigorating morning. Fitness paired with a balanced breakfast can inspire healthy choices for the rest of the day.
- Waking-up early can lead to augmented vitamin D production. This unique, but essential vitamin helps the body defend itself against harmful microorganisms, regulate calcium and phosphate levels, healthy bone growth, promotes fluid circulation. Vitamin D’s uniqueness is amplified by the fact that it is processed in the epidermis with the help of UVB rays, a light wave frequency that occurs naturally as a composite of sunlight. In other words, get a tan.
- Waking-up early is a prerequisite to getting a job at Google
Like half-shaved heads, the American Idiot[2] album at the back of our closet, and our subscription to The Militant[3] , sleeping through the day is excusable only as a contained fad of adolescence.
Wake-up. Cast aside your lack of self-assurance, your compulsion towards excess, and that cute brunet that always pulls you back into her kiss when you try to reach for your pants off the floor. Join us to face the alarm every morning with a welcome smile.
It is adult time, time for our action, our creativity to hold reverence. This time could be ours. Will you be up in time to catch the CTA?
